Peter covers politics for Vanity Fair. His byline occasionally appears in The Guardian and Tablet. He has reported for The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper’s, Wired, GQ, W and other publications from the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, South Asia and the U.S. His book, The Interloper: Lee Harvey Oswald Inside the Soviet Union, was published, in 2013, by Basic Books.

Peter has also worked on several podcasts for Wondery, including the soon-to-be-released series about Dorothy Stratten’s 1980 murder.

In 2013, Peter launched Stateless Media, which has produced short-form video for Condé Nast Entertainment, TechCrunch, Engadget, The Guardian and other venues. Stateless’ signature shortreals — 3- to 4-minute movies about real people around the globe — have been shared by Buzzfeed, Upworthy and boing boing; nominated for Webby’s; and been seen millions of times.
